Good

Nice villas with a private beach and whole island is clean all around.

There were 2 unexpected blacked out that lasted around 10 mins each around 6-7pm. Understandable since the island operates on genset. However kind of ruin the luxury island experience a bit if I were honest.

I loved the staff, the view, and food.

Everything was so good but mainly the staff made it extra. Rizwan, Jenny, and Esther made my family's dining experience one of a kind and they all complemented on their friendliness and hospitality.

The food should have come out all together at once and not one dish at a time 10 minutes apart. When there was buffet, the food wasnt filled fast enough. Also, we kinda wished it was a non smoking area.

Stay in Hillside Beach Villa if you want to get what you want to get

The private ferry from Kota Kinabalu centre to Manuka Island arranged by the resort was great. The staffs were kind and helpful and the room was spacious. The breakfast was excellent.

If you want to have the same experience you expect to have after seeing all those pictures in booking.com, we highly recommend you to stay in HILLSIDE BEACH VILLA, not in SUITE WITH GARDEN VIEW. We stayed in the latter one, and it wasn't quite the same as what we expected. The beach in front of our suite was full of island hopping tourist (only hillside beach villa side has an exclusive beach area). There was water shortage in the suite for several hours, and the power generator went off a couple of times during the night which caused very bright emergency light in the room switched on. And the wall between the suits were so thin that we could hear the other guests' conversation quite well. We wanted to have a peaceful and relaxing holiday in this resort, but unfortunately we couldn't have it.

We wish we had booked longer stay.

We wish we had booked longer stay. It is absolute gem! The staff is very attentive, the nature amazing, we could go snorkeling just at the beach and see clown fish, puff fish, stingray, and so many other, don't even know their names! Our children (9&12) loved the place. The breakfast was freshly cooked and huge. Day tourists arrive at 9 am and leave at 4 pm, but you have a private area on the beach, just for resort guests, so no problem at all. Food choices are limited, but food is very good and not expensive. Little touches like chocolates on the bed or greetings drinks made it even better! We were very happy with our stay !

Huge room, but not enough storage for clothes, couple of racks or hooks in the bathroom would be good investment.

Lovely visit.

Our villa was fantastic and very comfortable. Food was great but a little expensive. Lovely atmosphere in the late afternoon and evening. Snorkeling off the private lodge beach had some lovely coral and fish. Really enjoyed our stay.

Pool was a bit tired looking but good. Having day visitors gave the lodge a different feel and it was a bit uncomfortable at times in terms of respecting local sensitivities but not really a big problem. A bit peeved that we had to pay a lot extra for an earlier boat and found that the lodged used it to transport linen anyway!

Swimming pool was out of order.

Swimming pool was out of order. However, the staff went out of their way to fix it as soon as possible. We were compensated for the inconvenience by a free meal.

Luxury living at it's best!

It was a very spacious room. It also had a jacuzzi hot tub! Everything was great. It felt luxurious. You also had access to a private beach area which was separated from all the other tourists. Manukan can be very busy, especially with the boatloads of tourists that arrive every 5 minutes so it was great that we had access to a quiet part of the island. The staff were friendly and the food great. I would stay there again!!

I would recommend to my friends with advise to be prepared for the Slightly dirty communal areas

Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was well appointed and comfortable.

The basic cleanliness was lacking, the guest beach was not overly large and should be fairly easy to keep clear of rubbish and washed up Diapers!! I was uncomfortable swimming amongst all of the rubbish

Paradise, with special thanks to Ben the hotel manager who became a good friend

There are no words to describe this amazing piece of paradise. Ive travelled most of the world and never found anywhere as perfect as this. The staff were amazing and remembered every guests name. They greeted you every morning with a huge 3, 4, 5 course breakfast and every member of staff was immaculately dressed in exotic sarongs and shirts with fresh flowers in their hair. I felt like i was on a honeymoon in paradise. The wildlife was abundant. Sharks, tropical fish and coral. Monitor lizards the size of labradors and birdwatchers fantasy.

The daily tourists often left litter which was annoying but the staff followed behind clearing up immediately

Wonderful place in beautiful island

The location is exceptional, super quiet island especially once the "mainland" tourists leave at 4pm, the staff super kind, the restaurant really good.

Wish there were blackout curtains (same issue across all of Sabah and in South East Asia in general), so we woke up super early every day. Also our bungalow was spacious but not well insulated and so we had a ton of ants as soon as we brought in a little piece of food. And the AC wasn't cooling much - generally a bit more maintenance wouldn't hurt. But would definitely go back!

Nice and friendly resort and the only possible accommodation...

Nice and friendly resort and the only possible accommodation on Manukan island. Prices are high but should already include the boat transfer and breakfast. Our room was spacious and clean with a modern decor. The beach on the right-hand side of the peer is reserved for the hotel guests, with sun beds, and thus quieter. There are power shortages during the day for about 5-10mins., but that was never a problem. We had all amenities in the room and heater for shower. The breakfast is a la carte but the food is good and the portions generous. The staff is incredibly friendly and courteous but there seems to be a general lack of organization - we had to say our bedroom number at least 3 times to three different staff at breakfast, they couldn’t find us 2 beach towels when we arrived, etc. nothing a bit of training can’t fix. Nevertheless we will never forget how kind all the staff were to us.

Please note that the charge for an out of schedule transfer is a bit excessive - 530MYR. Unfortunately we were staying on the side where all the day trippers come and go and during the day it was particularly noisy. We had no internet service as we were explained, that had reached the quota. This was unfortunate and made us have to use roaming data.

Exceeded our expectations. I recommend the hillside villas - spacious, comfortable, and great views.

Our hillside villa was superb - a huge sitting room, large bedroom, and a vast bathroom, plus an outdoor area with a spectacular view out over the beach and sea. It was a lot more upmarket than I had expected! We had a good dinner in the hotel's pleasant open-air restaurant (serenaded by some excellent musicians!), and the breakfast buffet the following morning was also good. The fresh-water swimming pool was large and refreshing. And we saw a lot of fish while snorkelling over the coral off the beach (but only deep enough to do that at high tide). The staff were outstandingly helpful and friendly.

There was no WiFi in the villa itself, but good connection in the reception area, and intermittent connection in the restaurant. And (no fault of the hotel of course) we got bitten by sandflies while on the beach.
